Hair & Makeupโ
For both Dress Rehearsal and Recital, girls should have their hair in a low bun with NO BANGS. Bun Kits can be purchased on our website or at our office. Please practice prior to Dress Rehearsal using the bun tutorial video on our website and our socials.
โ
Makeup is optional but highly recommended for both photos and the stage so your dancer’s features are not washed out by the lights. Dancers should use neutral eyeshadows, blush, red or pink lipstick, and mascara.
โ
Boys should wear chapstick and "do" their hair with gel or hairspray so that it does not fall in their eyes.

Costumesโ
Costumes will be sent home in the Spring after being tried on in class for proper fit. Please put your dancer’s costume(s) in a safe place and only wear it on Dress Rehearsal and Recital Days! We cannot guarantee a replacement if lost or damaged. Instructions for how to wear any included accessories will be put on the garment bag for the costume.
โโ
Undergarments should NOT be seen onstage. Just like a bathing suit, girls should not wear underwear under the tights included with their costume. We highly recommend purchasing a back-up pair of tights from the office. Bras should have clear or skin-tone straps only.
โโ
Boys should wear socks that match their shoe color.โ
Colored nail polish or toe nail polish is not permitted onstage.
Dress Rehearsal will be held on stage at David Brearley High School in Kenilworth, NJ on May 16th & 17th, May 19th-22nd, & May 27th & 28th. Each class will only rehearse once.
โ
A detailed breakdown of Dress Rehearsal times can be found here, in your Fusion Parent Portal account, and at our office.
โ
Each class will have one assigned Dress Rehearsal / Photo time. Photos will be taken just before dancers rehearse. A detailed schedule can be found on our website, in your online Parent Portal, on the Parent Portal App, or at the Fusion office.
Please plan accordingly to have your dancer ready (costume, tights, shoes, hair, and makeup) prior to their assigned time so that Dress Rehearsal can remain on schedule.

Can I preview the photos before purchasing? Will retakes be available?

Backstage Dressing Roomsโ
โ
Fusion's dressing rooms are highly supervised and organized. To keep the Recital experience stress-free for parents and FUN for dancers, we have some tried-and-true guidelines to follow!
-
Backstage "Groups"โ
To maintain organization in our Dressing Rooms, each dancer will be assigned to a group with other members of their class. Your dancer’s group number will be emailed prior to the show. Fusion Staff will be on hand to assist you at all times.. -
Check-in Time
Dancers must be signed in 30 minutes before showtime by one chaperone. The SAME chaperone must sign them out at the end of the show. -
Parent "Wristbands"โ
For safety purposes, each chaperone will receive a wristband when their dancer is signed in to the Dressing Room. The wristband MUST be worn to enter the Dressing Room after the show begins and at pick-up. There are no exceptions.*There are Assistant Teachers & FDC Event Staff backstage to assist with costume changes and bathroom breaks, so we encourage you to relax and enjoy the show! -
Miscellaneous
-
Water and snacks that are not sticky/won’t stain costumes are permitted. Products with common allergens are not allowed in the dressing rooms.
-
Please do not forget to remove your dancer's jewelry and to take it and other valuables with you.
-
For safety reasons, dancers must remain under the supervision of FDC Staff in the Dressing Room and backstage for the entire show. No exceptions. Our shows are very short in duration and every dancer is brought back onstage to take a final bow and receive a medal! Siblings performing in the same show will be able to watch the livestream that our videographer sets up in the Dressing Room.
Recital Weekend
Audience Etiquetteโ
โ
Recital Weekend is the highlight of our Fusion Dance Year! We want dancers to feel supported and encouraged for their big moment, but please note that this is NOT a sporting event. To remain respectful of the students onstage and their families in the audience, appropriate guidelines of theater etiquette will be followed and strictly enforced.
Audience members who do not comply with the following rules will be removed at the discretion of Fusion Staff & the Kenilworth Police Department.
โ
-
Clapping, cheering, and dancing in your seat is always welcome! Screaming or creating distractions of any kind while dancers are performing is not permitted.
-
NO flash photography, videotaping, tablet or cellphone use during a performance. Flashes are dangerous for dancers onstage and screen light is distracting for audience members. Recording other people’s children or the intellectual property of professional choreographers is illegal.
-
For your enjoyment, our shows are short with very little time between dance numbers! Therefore, everyone MUST REMAIN SEATED DURING EACH DANCE. Please do not stand up and block the view of other audience members and our videographer. Doors will not be opened while a dance is onstage, no exceptions.
โ
Don't forget—when everyone puts the dancers first, recital is a memorable experience for all!
Venue Parkingโ
Don't forget...every show starts ON TIME!
Please allow yourself extra time to park, and please remind members of your party that are arriving separately to do the same. All vehicles must be parked legally. Cars blocking fire lanes may receive a ticket from Kenilworth Police.
*Additional parking is available behind Harding Elementary School. Access from N 18th St.
